Spending the weekend in Thibodaux helping the brothers behind Coastal Cultivars get ready to plant black mangroves. In case you are wondering, Black mangroves are helpful in restoring coastal wetlands because they are salt tolerant and boast a robust root system. The roots help to stabilize soils and the woody plant structure absorbs storm surge (important on the gulf coast) and the wave energy that causes erosion. Its also the only mangrove species that grows in Louisiana.

Coastal Cultivars is planting their second crop this fall. For more information you can visit http://www.coastalcultivars.com
